Lovely Location & grounds Hotel looked like a small luxury hotel food was good
Its the little touches that count & Newbury Manor fell short on these. When paying premium rates you expect premium service & facilities. Value for money is something you always take into account.Theses mainly centred around the room ( lights not working, Plugs not working, heating on & unable to turn off & not resolved despite asking) , as well as the conservatory lake facing windows were filthy! We have travelled extensively & whilst undoubtedly a fantastic location when considering the cost you expect certain standards, I am not one for complaining but I am sure the hotel inspector would agree.

I liked the setting - the grounds, water features, walks.
I didn't like the noise from the traffic on the road outside.

Several things immediately come to mind - the fact that we arrived at 11am, well before official check in time, preparing to leave our cases but were told our room was ready and allowed to check in early - a huge bonus! The breakfast served in the very picturesque Riverbar Restaurant was lovely. The room and ensuite bathroom were gorgeous - plenty tea, coffee and milk plus a lovely treat - homemade biscuits! Very clean and a very comfortable bed. Plenty of storage space in the bedroom. The staff were all extremely pleasant and courteous and the hotel generally was lovely. By the way it is an ideal spot for a special romantic weekend or the start of a honeymoon! Photo opportunities are plenty, especially in the sunshine!
There really wasn't anything we didn't like but I suppose the only point I would make would be to say it isn't really an ideal place for families with young children as there is an awful lot of water about - a lake and river running through the grounds. It is more suited to couples and families with older children. Also, it was a warm dry weekend when we stayed but I'm not sure it would be very pleasant walking outside, across the bridge and decking to the restaurant every morning for breakfast!

We asked for sheets/blankets, but duvets were provided. Change made promptly and without fuss. Information on walking into Newbury and to the race course accurate and interesting. Food good, thought the venison carpaccio starter was a bit mean but the service/staff excellent. Very comfortable beds and quiet surroundings. Would like some info on other hotels in the group.

This hotel was very easy to find, parking was handy for the entrance, spacious reception area, excellent restaurant in a most delightful setting. Couldn't have been handier for Newbury Races. We considered the package to be extremely good value.
There was no lift to our bedroom which was on the second floor.

loved the setting and Riverside restaurant menu was excellent, food delicious and service very good. bit disappointed with the breakfast, was looking forward to the danish pastries but didn't have any. Apart from that, full English breakfast was good. I have been to Newbury Manor 4 or 5 times now and would recommend it to all my friends. I wouldn't look elsewhere in Newbury as I love newbury races and the hotel is ideally situated. keep up your high standards and I will be booking rooms on a regular basis. Thank you, Gary
When I checked in I wasn't asked if I wanted a newspaper in the morning. Not a problem really, maybe I should have remembered to ask. Not blaming the receptionist as she was very polite and helpful.

Great hotel in good location, lovely setting even though its close to the town. I was luckly and got an upgrade to a room with a private hottub! Breakfast in the riverside restaurant was a great start to the day.

I stayed in an Executive room with balcony, overlooking the river and gardens. The room was spacious, exceptionally clean and the bed extremely comfortable. The Restaurant had a beautiful river setting and was situated only a few metres walk from the Reception.
Maintenance of the fixtures and fittings in room needed major repair. The curtain had a massive rip from top to bottom & the Roman blind on side window had no cord (so had to be twisted and held back by an elastic band) Also drawer hinges broken & bathroom door hook hanging off. Requested bacon, tomatoes & mushrooms for Breakfast, received 2 rashes of bacon, but only half a tomato & half a small mushroom, had to request the other 2 halves!! (Have already e-mailed the GM with all the above issues)

The hotel was very close to the training centre and the staff were quite friendly.
Unfortunately the internet was down for the duration of my stay. Also the rooms weren't soundproofed that well. Each morning I was woken up by the firedoors in the hallway slaming.

A defective shower and the lack of Wi-Fi in certain rooms
